What owners reported

2022 Mazda CX-30 owner complaints in detail

Owners have reported 4 crashes and 2 injuries to NHTSA for the 2022 Mazda CX-30. These are unverified owner reports, not confirmed defect rates.

Owner complaints6

ENGINE

Owners of the 2022 Mazda CX-30 frequently report an issue with excessive engine oil consumption. Complaints consistently mention the "low oil" or "low oil pressure" warning light activating between 3,000 to 5,000 miles after an oil change, often requiring the addition of approximately one quart of oil to rectify the low levels. This pattern occurs despite the absence of visible oil leaks and is noted in vehicles with as few as 6,000 miles. There are no reports of crashes, fires, or loss of vehicle control associated with this issue. Prospective buyers should be aware of this recurring oil consumption problem, as it may require more frequent monitoring and maintenance than typical for this vehicle class.

Owner complaints4

STEERING

Owners of the 2022 Mazda CX-30 report issues related to steering, including sudden and uncontrollable shifts of the steering wheel, sometimes accompanied by unexpected acceleration, which have resulted in crashes. One report notes a crash with an injury when the vehicle veered to the right without warning at approximately 3,000 miles. Another owner describes the lane assist function nearly causing a collision with a guard rail. Additionally, premature wear on the steering wheel is noted, with some attributing it to material quality, although no specific mileage range is consistently mentioned for this issue. These complaints highlight potential safety implications, particularly regarding loss of control and crashes.

Severity signals: 2 crash, 0 fire, 1 injury reports

Owner complaints4

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Owners of the 2022 Mazda CX-30 report several issues under the unknown or other category. A common problem includes temperature sensor malfunctions, where the engine consistently reads as cold, potentially impacting vehicle performance. Another issue involves unexpected low oil level warnings appearing 1,000 miles before the scheduled oil change. Some owners describe incidents of the sunroof unexpectedly shattering, with no apparent external cause, raising potential safety concerns. Additionally, complaints about wavy windshields are noted, with affected drivers experiencing visibility issues and headaches. These issues arise in vehicles under two years old, with no specific mileage consistently mentioned across complaints.

Owner complaints3

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Owners report several electrical system issues with the 2022 Mazda CX-30. A significant complaint involves the failure of the automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems, which did not activate during a collision, resulting in a crash. This issue is linked to multiple error messages and hard fault codes related to the vehicle's safety systems. Another owner describes ongoing problems with the vehicle's CMU, affecting navigation and backup camera functionality. Additionally, one owner reports a battery failure at 19,742 miles and an issue with the vehicle's transmission not advancing beyond third gear while driving in mountainous areas, alongside temporary deactivation of the safety system. These issues suggest potential safety implications, especially concerning the failure of safety systems during critical moments.

Severity signals: 1 crash, 0 fire, 0 injury reports

Owner complaints2

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Owners report issues with the forward collision avoidance systems in the 2022 Mazda CX-30, particularly involving unexpected braking. One owner describes the "smart braking system" activating without vehicles ahead, leading to an abrupt stop while exiting a freeway. Another owner details problems with the adaptive cruise control failing to properly recognize lane separations and turn lanes, causing the vehicle to brake unnecessarily for vehicles not in its lane. This issue is noted primarily on city streets where the system reactivates upon each start, despite attempts to disable it. These complaints highlight potential safety implications, such as increased risk of rear-end collisions due to sudden deceleration.

Owner complaints2

AIR BAGS

Owners of the 2022 Mazda CX-30 report issues with the air bags not deploying during a crash and warning lights indicating air bag and seat belt malfunctions. In one instance, an air bag failed to deploy in a collision at approximately 35 MPH, resulting in injuries to the driver. Another owner mentions receiving a dashboard warning about seat belts and air bags being non-operational, despite the vehicle having fewer than 3,000 miles and no prior damage. These complaints suggest potential safety implications, particularly concerning air bag functionality in crash scenarios. Buyers should be aware of these reported issues, especially when considering vehicles with mileage around 23,000 or lower.
