Owner complaints9

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Owners report frequent instances of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata's electrical system shutting down completely for brief periods while driving, typically affecting all lights, dashboard displays, and safety systems. These incidents often occur at night or in low-light conditions, leaving the vehicle momentarily without illumination or instrumentation, though the engine continues to run. Complaints describe this issue happening at various speeds, with some reports indicating the problem occurs multiple times over several months. Mileage at the time of incidents varies, with one owner noting the issue at 16,000 miles. The sudden loss of electrical function poses a significant safety risk due to the temporary loss of visibility and control over vehicle systems. Additionally, one complaint notes a variance in speedometer accuracy, which could also impact driving safety.

Owner complaints6

POWER TRAIN

Owners report issues with the power train in the 2024 Hyundai Sonata, with some experiencing unintended deceleration while attempting to accelerate, particularly at higher speeds, and others noting jerking during acceleration and shifting, especially after a software update. These problems occur at varying mileages, with one report mentioning around 16,500 miles. A crash is reported due to unintended acceleration when the vehicle lurched forward despite braking, indicating potential safety risks. Additionally, a speedometer discrepancy linked to the navigation system is noted, though not directly related to the power train, it suggests electronic calibration issues. These patterns suggest potential transmission or software-related concerns buyers should consider.

Owner complaints6

STRUCTURE

Owners of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata frequently report issues with the vehicle's bumpers, specifically noting that both the front and rear bumpers tend to detach or pop out, often at the bumper brackets. Symptoms include bumpers not sitting flush with adjacent panels, with some owners observing gaps of up to 1/8th inch. This issue is noted at low mileages, with one report mentioning approximately 1,500 miles. While no accidents or safety incidents are directly reported, concerns are expressed about potential hazards if the bumpers were to further detach at higher speeds. Additionally, there is a report of an under-engine splash shield detaching after a service, which posed a road hazard. These complaints suggest potential structural concerns that prospective buyers should be aware of, especially regarding the bumper fitment and retention.

Owner complaints5

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Owners of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata frequently report issues with the vehicle's speedometer accuracy, with multiple complaints indicating that it displays a speed 1-4 mph higher than the actual speed. This discrepancy often worsens after the car is restarted following a short shutdown, such as during a fuel stop. Additionally, there are reports of the Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system being overly sensitive, issuing frequent alerts that some owners find distracting. These issues appear to persist regardless of mileage or time of ownership, and while no direct safety incidents such as crashes or loss of control are reported, the incorrect speed readings and persistent alerts may affect driving focus. Buyers considering this model should be aware of these reported electronic system inconsistencies.

Owner complaints4

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Owners of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata report issues with the vehicle's speedometer accuracy, often noting discrepancies between the speedometer and GPS-based speed readings. Complaints frequently mention that the speedometer can be off by 5 mph or more, particularly after the vehicle has been restarted following a short stop. One owner describes a more severe issue where the car unexpectedly limits speed to 20 mph, necessitating a restart to resolve. These issues are noted at various mileage points, with one complaint specifically mentioning the problem emerging at around 2,000 miles. The potential safety implications include difficulty in maintaining proper speed, which could affect other speed-dependent functions like cruise control, and unexpected speed reductions while driving. Multiple owners indicate that dealerships have been unable to replicate or resolve these problems, and they have not received a satisfactory solution from Hyundai.

Owner complaints2

STEERING

Owners report persistent steering issues with the 2024 Hyundai Sonata, specifically involving the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. Complaints frequently mention severe and intermittent malfunctions that lead to unpredictable loss of steering control, with symptoms including the vehicle veering unexpectedly and losing precision during turns, often resulting in near-collision incidents. These issues are noted around 17,804 to 20,000 miles, despite previous recall repairs intended to address the problem. Safety implications are significant, as the described defects compromise the vehicle's control and overall safety. Additionally, some owners mention a non-functional parking collision assistance system, which fails to provide audible warnings and further impacts vehicle safety.

Owner complaints2

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Owners report two primary issues with the 2024 Hyundai Sonata's forward collision avoidance system. First, the driver attention warning feature is described as overly sensitive, activating frequently after about 10 minutes of driving and reacting to factors such as wearing sunglasses, without any apparent driver error. This feature cannot be turned off, which some owners find distracting. Second, the forward collision avoidance system unexpectedly engages during left turns, applying automatic emergency braking and bringing the vehicle to a stop, as noted by a complaint at just 60 miles. These issues may pose safety concerns due to their distracting nature and unexpected activation, especially for potential buyers considering this model.

Owner complaints2

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Owners of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata report issues with the vehicle's exterior lighting, specifically the automatic high beams and low-beam headlights. One complaint describes the automatic high beams remaining on continuously when the camera used to control them is obstructed, potentially causing visibility issues for other drivers. Another owner notes inadequate illumination from the low-beam headlights, particularly at night, where they struggle to light road signs and pedestrians effectively. This issue is observed around 3,500 miles, with no apparent solution through headlamp adjustment due to their recessed design. These lighting problems could pose safety risks, especially during nighttime driving.
