Owner complaints5

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Owners of the 2024 Toyota Prius report issues primarily related to unexpected acceleration and braking, as well as concerns about incomplete key sets and infotainment disruptions. One owner describes a crash occurring during a parking maneuver due to sudden acceleration, while others report the vehicle braking abruptly when reversing. These incidents suggest potential safety implications, including loss of control, although no injuries were reported in the crash. Additionally, owners express frustration with a persistent popup on the infotainment screen that interferes with navigation, and some are concerned about an unresolved recall affecting their confidence in the vehicle's safety. Complaints about missing spare tires also highlight safety concerns, though these are common across many new vehicles.

Owner complaints5

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Owners report recurring issues with the 12-volt battery in the 2024 Toyota Prius, which can lead to the vehicle not starting and leaving drivers stranded. Complaints frequently mention that this issue arises even in vehicles with low mileage, such as 7,000 miles, and often occurs without prior warning except for a low battery alert. Multiple owners describe being stranded in potentially hazardous conditions, such as extreme heat, due to the battery failure. Additionally, there are reports of a recall related to the electric rear door lock system, with some owners expressing frustration over delays in remedying the issue. These problems may pose safety risks, particularly in situations where immediate vehicle access or movement is necessary.

Owner complaints2

WHEELS

Owners report issues with the 19" Toyo tires on the 2024 Toyota Prius, specifically concerning sidewall damage leading to tire replacement. Complaints frequently mention tire failures occurring at approximately 10,848 to 11,749 miles, often attributed to potholes, although some owners do not recall hitting major ones. A notable concern is the absence of a spare tire and jack, which multiple owners find problematic, especially in situations where tire damage occurs at night or in areas with prevalent potholes. While no crashes or loss of control are reported, the lack of a spare tire can lead to inconvenient and potentially unsafe situations if a tire fails. Buyers should be aware of the potential for tire and wheel damage in regions with poor road conditions and the absence of a spare tire in this model.

Owner complaints2

TIRES

Owners of the 2024 Toyota Prius report issues with Bridgestone Ecopia tires, specifically involving sidewall damage. Complaints frequently mention discovering bubbles or lacerations on the sidewalls during routine maintenance or after deflation while parked. The mileage at which these issues occur is typically around 7,000 to 10,400 miles. One report details a blowout at highway speeds, leading to the vehicle being towed, though no crashes or injuries are mentioned. These patterns suggest potential tire safety concerns that prospective buyers should consider, especially regarding sidewall integrity.

Owner complaints2

AIR BAGS

Owners report that the 2024 Toyota Prius experiences unexpected airbag deployment under minimal impact conditions. Complaints frequently mention airbags deploying when the vehicle makes contact with a curb or during low-speed maneuvers such as parking. In one instance, the airbag deployed following a sudden acceleration and crash while parking, with the vehicle having approximately 3,000 miles. These incidents suggest potential safety implications, including unanticipated airbag deployment and sudden vehicle acceleration, which may be of concern to prospective buyers.

Severity signals: 1 crash, 0 fire, 0 injury reports

Owner complaints2

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Owners of the 2024 Toyota Prius report issues with the vehicle's dash lights when the headlights are activated. Complaints frequently mention that the dash and screen become significantly dimmer, making them difficult to read during daytime conditions, particularly in rain or fog. This issue is highlighted as problematic for older drivers who may find the reduced visibility challenging. The problem is noted as a design flaw rather than a malfunction, with no specific mileage range mentioned. Safety implications are reported in terms of visibility, as drivers must choose between legal headlight use and clear dashboard visibility in certain conditions.
