What owners reported

2020 KIA Sedona owner complaints in detail

Owner complaints4

STRUCTURE

Owners of the 2020 Kia Sedona frequently report issues with the vehicle's sliding doors, including malfunctions where the doors fail to hold their weight and either forcefully close or open, especially on an incline. Additionally, some owners describe the doors attempting to open beyond their limit, resulting in jamming and beeping. Another concern noted by owners involves the paint, with instances of peeling, flaking, and bubbling, particularly around the roof and liftgate. One report highlights a more serious safety issue where steering becomes difficult to control, accompanied by wheel and tire problems at approximately 65,245 miles. These reports indicate potential safety risks, particularly with door operation and steering control.

Owner complaints3

ENGINE

Owners of the 2020 Kia Sedona report several engine-related issues, with a focus on sudden deceleration and starting difficulties. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle unexpectedly slowing from highway speeds to around 10-20 mph, often accompanied by a check engine light, and attributed by owners to accelerator pedal failures. This issue has been reported at various mileages, with one owner noting occurrences at 15,000, 50,000, and 63,000 miles. Another common issue involves starting problems in hot weather, with the vehicle failing to start immediately but eventually functioning normally, typically occurring around 22,000 miles. Safety concerns are highlighted due to the sudden loss of speed on highways, though no accidents have been reported.

Owner complaints3

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Owners of the 2020 Kia Sedona report issues related to the electrical system, with multiple complaints highlighting sudden loss of power and illumination of warning lights. Common symptoms include vehicle stalling, inoperable headlights and taillights, and malfunctioning windows. These issues often occur around 77,000 to 79,000 miles. Safety implications are noted, as one report describes a vehicle abruptly braking and stopping on the interstate, posing a risk of rear-end collisions. Buyers should be aware of potential electrical failures and the associated safety risks when considering this vehicle.

Owner complaints3

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Owners of the 2020 Kia Sedona report issues related to vehicle electronics and communication systems. Complaints frequently mention problems with the ECU communication, specifically with the key fob, leading to unexpected engine shutdowns while driving, which poses safety risks as vehicles must be maneuvered to the roadside on busy highways. Another complaint involves post-service issues with the air conditioning system and control knobs after a high-pressure fuel pump replacement, indicating potential electrical or mechanical disruptions during repairs, with the vehicle at approximately 67,500 miles. Additionally, an owner notes the lack of recall notifications, highlighting potential gaps in communication regarding safety updates. These issues suggest that potential buyers should be aware of possible electronic malfunctions and ensure recall compliance.

Owner complaints2

POWER TRAIN

Owners of the 2020 KIA Sedona report significant oil consumption issues, particularly around or after 100,000 miles. Symptoms frequently include stalling engines, illuminated check engine lights, and the need to add several quarts of oil between changes. Complaints highlight that these issues often lead to engine damage, with one owner noting oil fouling on spark plugs due to carbon-stuck piston rings. Another owner mentions that despite having a 200,000-mile powertrain warranty, repairs related to oil consumption are not covered, as their specific vehicle model is not listed as affected. No safety implications such as crashes or loss of control are reported, but the stalling and engine failure could lead to being stranded.
