What owners reported

2026 KIA Carnival owner complaints in detail

Owner complaints5

POWER TRAIN

Owners report several power train issues with the 2026 KIA Carnival, primarily involving sudden loss of power and acceleration problems. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle entering a "limp mode," limiting speed to around 31 mph, and in some cases, complete power loss occurs without warning. These issues typically arise in vehicles with low mileage, often under 1,500 miles. Safety implications are significant, as multiple owners describe situations where the vehicle's inability to maintain speed or accelerate nearly led to accidents, particularly at highway speeds. Additionally, some reports indicate engine warning lights and diagnostic codes appearing after these incidents, suggesting potential underlying mechanical or electronic faults.

Owner complaints3

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Owners report that the 2026 KIA Carnival experiences issues with vehicle speed control, particularly in cold weather conditions. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle's inability to accelerate past 31 mph regardless of the gas pedal position, with this issue occurring during temperatures below 35F. Another reported problem involves a malfunctioning speedometer that inaccurately displays speed, sometimes showing zero while the vehicle is moving. These issues appear to temporarily resolve after restarting the vehicle. Additionally, one owner describes a broader system failure affecting multiple vehicle functions, including the speedometer, which has resulted in extended repair shop visits. These symptoms suggest potential safety concerns regarding accurate speed monitoring and vehicle control.

Owner complaints2

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Owners report that the 2026 KIA Carnival experiences significant electrical system issues shortly after purchase. Complaints frequently mention problems such as the instrument display panel failing to turn on, electrical shorts affecting the radio, and the vehicle's battery dying, which can render the car inoperable. These issues typically occur within the first few weeks of ownership. Safety implications are noted, as the instrument display panel failure disables critical features like the rearview camera and camera monitoring system. Prospective buyers should be aware that these electrical issues can lead to extended repair times and unresolved diagnostic outcomes, as evidenced by one vehicle being out of service for 15 days without a clear resolution.

Owner complaints2

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Owners of the 2026 KIA Carnival report issues primarily related to vehicle speed limitations and driver assistance warnings. One complaint describes an inability to exceed 31 mph, particularly in cold weather conditions, with the issue occurring at just under 3,000 miles. Another complaint highlights frequent and distracting "COFFEE BREAK" warnings from the driver assistance system, which cannot be disabled and occur every 10 minutes, regardless of driver status. These issues suggest potential safety implications, especially concerning the speed limitation problem occurring on highways. Buyers should be aware of these reported concerns, particularly in cold climates or when relying on driver assistance features.

  1. ELECTRICAL SYSTEMNHTSA 26V046000Jan 27, 2026

Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2025 Kia K4, 2025-2026 Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, Sorento Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV), 2026 Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Sportage PHEV, K5, EV9, Carnival, and Carnival Hybrid vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Controls and Displays" and 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."

Consequence: An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer, tire pressure, or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.

    Remedy

The instrument panel display software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 26, 2026. Owners may contact Kia Customer Service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC361.
