What owners reported

2024 Honda Odyssey owner complaints in detail

Owners have reported 1 crash and 3 injuries to NHTSA for the 2024 Honda Odyssey. These are unverified owner reports, not confirmed defect rates.

Owner complaints13

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Owners report frequent issues with the 2024 Honda Odyssey's idle-stop function, which often causes the vehicle to stall at intersections or stoplights. Symptoms include the car failing to restart automatically, requiring manual intervention to restart the engine. This issue is noted even when the vehicle's battery tests fine, and it often occurs in warm weather or when the air conditioning is in use. Complaints frequently mention safety concerns, such as the risk of being rear-ended when the vehicle unexpectedly stalls in traffic. Some owners also describe problems with the infotainment system, including unresponsive displays and malfunctioning rear cameras. These issues typically arise at low mileage, with some owners experiencing problems shortly after purchase.

Owner complaints5

ENGINE

Owners of the 2024 Honda Odyssey report issues with the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature, which frequently fails to restart the engine after engagement, leaving drivers stranded in traffic. This issue is noted multiple times and presents a safety risk, especially when occurring in busy intersections or lanes. Additionally, several owners describe rough idling and misfiring, with some dealers indicating this might be a characteristic of the vehicle without providing a clear resolution. These problems are reported at various mileages, including as low as 9,000 miles, and can potentially lead to hazardous situations, such as delayed acceleration or stalling in traffic.

Owner complaints5

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Owners of the 2024 Honda Odyssey frequently report issues with the forward collision avoidance system, particularly involving the radar and camera components. Common symptoms include the radar being obstructed by the emblem on the grille, leading to deactivation of safety features like automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, the automatic braking system reportedly activates unexpectedly during lane merging, especially when turn signals are not used, posing a risk of rear-end collisions. One incident involved a crash with two injuries, highlighting potential safety implications. These issues often occur within the first 12,000 miles of ownership, suggesting early onset of these problems.

Severity signals: 1 crash, 0 fire, 2 injury reports

Owner complaints3

POWER TRAIN

Owners report issues with the 2024 Honda Odyssey's power train, particularly with the start-stop system and transmission. Complaints frequently mention the start-stop system failing to restart after longer drives, notably leaving drivers stranded at traffic lights. Symptoms include the vehicle needing to be turned off and on to resume operation, with no prior warning lights. Transmission problems are described as hard shifts in lower gears, causing the vehicle to jerk, which could pose a safety risk in adverse conditions. These issues appear to emerge around 16,000 to 24,000 miles, with some owners expressing concern about potential safety implications, such as loss of control or being stranded in traffic.

Owner complaints3

SERVICE BRAKES

Owners report that the 2024 Honda Odyssey experiences unexpected automatic braking without driver input while driving. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle braking suddenly and without warning, often at higher speeds such as 60 MPH, and without any apparent obstruction or warning lights. The failure is noted at mileage as low as approximately 2,997. One incident resulted in a minor injury when the driver hit their head due to the unexpected braking, highlighting potential safety implications, including near-collisions and the risk of causing multi-car accidents. These patterns suggest that prospective buyers should be aware of potential issues with the collision mitigation braking system in this model.

Severity signals: 0 crash, 0 fire, 1 injury reports

Owner complaints2

STEERING

Owners report issues with the 2024 Honda Odyssey's steering, where the vehicle may suddenly jerk, taking control of the steering. Another complaint highlights a problem related to the right rear ABS sensor, where a severed wire harness leads to diagnostic failures affecting e-steering and other systems, resulting in poor handling. These issues are noted in vehicles with as few as 4,000 miles. Safety implications include potential loss of vehicle control, as evidenced by the steering jerks and compromised braking performance. Buyers should be aware of these steering-related symptoms and the associated low mileage at which they occur.

Owner complaints2

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Owners of the 2024 Honda Odyssey report issues with the idle start/stop feature, which fails to restart the engine after stopping, even after a battery replacement. This problem occurs both in traffic and at stoplights, potentially causing delays and requiring a full vehicle restart. Additionally, some owners describe loud metal-on-metal screeching noises during turns at speeds of 30-40 mph, particularly in mountainous areas or during highway exits, with mileage around 4,400 to 5,600 miles. These noises are not typical brake sounds and may relate to steering components, though affected vehicles are not included in a current recall. Safety implications include potential delays in traffic due to start/stop system failure, but no crashes or loss of control are reported.
